Café Fatal is 18

Café Fatal celebrates its 18th birthday this Sunday at SO36. They say that is 930 Sundays and over 400 artists and 380 000 party goers.  We've never been but it sounds lovely and a world champion dancer has highly recommended it. Café Fatal is every Sunday from 18:00 starting with a dance course, then strictly ballroom until 22:00. After that it gets less formal and for their birthday they have Wilhelmine Schneider (aka The Nosy Rosie) & Conny Kanik and the best hits of all time. Well, why not? Wigstöckel

The first weekend in October it's the 16th Wigstöckel Festival. It unites trans*people, transvestites, kings, queens, all kinds of queers and anyone who likes to join for a unique event. The Festival is a fundraiser for trans* and queer projects. They have two parties as part of it at SO36 on the 6th and Südblock on the 7th.

SO36 BENEFIT CONCERT

There's a benefit concert at SO36 Wednesday 11 January in aid of the Georg von Rauch-Haus which was badly damaged by fire on Christmas day. Von Rauch was a 60s Berlin radical who died in 1971 in a police shoot out. Give at least 5€ to see performers Jingo De Lunch, Val Sinestra, Cut My Skin, Kumpelbasis, A Pony Named Olga, The Bottrops, Fr.Mansmann, Rock Shoe, The Brunettes, Twitchblades and DJs Johnny B. CLUBMOB AT SO36

Clubmob Berlin comes to SO36 for Kurzurlaub next Monday 17 December. Clubmob is an initiative to get all clubs green and all drink and entry proceeds will go to improving SO36's energy efficiency. WALL RESURRECTED

You may remember the wall drama at SO36: They had to build a sound proof wall to pacify the new neighbours. Well now it's done and they are celebrating on April 9 with a huge party, DJs Spit'n Sawdust, That Rockin' Lovemuffin, 2 Teller 1 Wahrheit, Rumpelstil; Live: Eatus Fetus, Christiane Rösinger & 1 Teil von Wonderska (with the Wall Song) and Dr. Hartz will read ot two years of Terrorkorrespondenz. Moderately gay club SO36 is at Oranienstr. 190, Berlin-Kreuzberg.

THREE DAY RELEASE PARTY

Our favourite queer punk band Nuclear Family start their "FUCK MY HE ART" album release tour tonight at Chantal's. The second outing is on Friday at CCCP Club and Saturday they are the first act at SO36's Ich Bin Ein Berliner. Click the headline for more details. RETURN OF ICH BIN EIN BERLINER

Ich bin ein Berliner, the monthly mini-festival at SO36, returns in August with a second season of nine shows. They're also releasing a double CD of their first season on the same day. It's all happening on Friday 13th August at SO36. Click the headline for details.

TRANSGENIALER CSD 26 JUNE

The Transgenialer CSD or Alternative CSD have quite a different motto from the real CSD: "Gewaltige Zeiten: Gewaltiger queerer Widerstand". Translates: "Violent times: Powerful queer resistance". They're having a parade 26 June starting 14:00 at Rathaus Neukölln ending with a party in Heinrichplatz then at SO36. Click the headline for more details.

S036 UNTIL 2020

We've much reported the trial and tribulations of iconic gay Berlin club SO36. April 2009 on their 30th birthday, they were being sued for noise and would have to build a sound proof wall and then in September they got a notice to quit from their landlord. Now at last they have a valid rent contract for at least the next ten years, so we'll see them at 40.

They're hoping that their lucky streak will continue and that the night time noise limit of 50 dB will be lifted. If that doesn't happen then they will have to build the magic wall. We'll see. They thank everybody for all their support. Read on for the message auf deutsch.

SO36 LIVES ON

Wild rumours are still circulating about the forthcoming demise of venerable club SO36. It hasn't happened yet! DISCODAMAGED have just got this press release:
"It's true that SO36 have had a notice to quit from their landlord, but their lawyer made a response in good time and irrespective of that they are in constructive discussions with the landlord and the district mayor. They're hoping for a positive outcome from the negotiations. Apart from that, they can't comment!"

WALL AT SO36

Back in April we reported that SO36 were having problems with a neighbour who was complaining about the noise and forcing them to build a sound proof wall. They've sent us a short update: Their landlord Retus Hausverwaltung has refused building permission. The Mayor has attempted mediation. Money for building the wall is still not enough. The actual amount donated so far: 5,700€. The have had huge solidarity from neighbours, guests, friends, clubs and business partners. There was a demo 'Megaspree' on the 11th July. They are having solidarity parties at SO on 23rd and 24th July. Be there!

An ordinary argument with a neighbour, who moved in above SO36 only three years ago, has grown into a life threatening conflict. Now it seems that the only solution is to build a sound proofing wall.
