POLICE RAID GAY BARS

Last week (Wednesday/Thursday) Berlin police raided four gay bars in Berlin-Schöneberg: Mutschmann’s, Woof, Tom's Bar and Scheune. The police say they were called in by the cigarette police and ended their intrusion in darkrooms, torches on, taking names of shifty smokers. Green politician Thomas Birk said that the raids on darkrooms were over the top (unverhältnismäßig). Rumours are running round Schöneberg. Are they just proving they are worth the money we pay? After being threatened with closure and surviving, Scheune will reach the grand age of 15 on Tuesday August 10 and they are celebrating by giving away free draft beer from 9pm. SCHEUNE NEWS

The Scheune saga continues. As reported on the 2nd February, Scheune is not closing although it may still have to move. But proprietor Sylvio told discodamaged last week that they will definitely stay at Motzstrasse 25 until the gay / lesbian street party on 12th-13th June. Lawyers are still discussing whether they can stay there longer.

SCHEUNE WILL NOT CLOSE

The rumours have been circulating in Berlin-Schöneberg for weeks that Scheune, friendly local gay bar with darkroom and naked parties every Sunday afternoon, is to close. There's even a Save the Scheune Facebook group. Yesterday Discodamaged sent its top reporter down to interview the lovely Sylvio, owner and man behind Scheune (the picture doesn't do him justice). The owners of the house want to put the rent up and get yet another underwear shop in the location. At the moment the discussions on renewal of the lease are in the hands of lawyers and the verdict will be out in a week or two. If it goes against Sylvio, he'll be reopening elsewhere. Watch this space for the result.

BLF WEEKEND

As well as Hustlaball, Chantal's House of Shame 10th birthday and the Venus porn fair there's the Berlin Leather and Fetish (BLF) weekend in Berlin in October. Their website (http://www.blf.de/) might not be quite up to date, because they go on about parties at Marios and its the recently opened Maxxx now. Maxxx also claim to be their preferred meeting place, so maybe the club meeting on October 6th is there and not in Woof. Not to worry – they are only 2 minutes walk away. Anyhoo, as well as that club meeting there's Rubber Exxtreme in Scheune on Friday 9th October, Rubber Bastards in Stage club the next day and a rubber brunch on the Sunday in 'Marios' (er, Maxxx). A reader rells us that Scheune will be closed for 3 days next week for a refurb. That's from Monday the 23rd, to Wednswday  the 25th, re-opening on the 26th. Don't panic, they'll be open for the regular naked sex party on Sunday.

After care at Scheune

I was in Scheune for the naked sex party last night. The usual mix of up for it guys were there. I was with friends at the bar near the door when we heard some shouting and slapping from the back of the bar. Some guy had passed out on the bench there. All the efforts of the staff couldn't wake him up and soon the paramedics arrived. Two burley men wheeled in a stretcher with their eyes demurely cast down. Ten minutes later and they were wheeling him out in the recovery position with his clothes in a bag on the end of the trolley. Staff told me that he was 'OK'. They take care of you in Scheune.
