A comment piece from our sister site in Berlin re their (German) Queen who is celebrating big time this weekend and The Gays...
We’re really enjoying the buzz of this historic weekend. Her Majesty, not Madge (seen here curtsying as she should) you idiots, but HM The Queen has been the one constant in our lives. She’s been there with us, our parents, our grandparents for Gods sake... and so many others through her reign. She’s been there. We felt for her when she lowered that flag... which was odd.
"Continue reading" for a Damaged take on The Queen's big knees up and our We Love You M'am favourite video that best captures our point for us.
PinkNews writes "A film by a gay man whose partner died before they could legally marry, and his plea for marriage equality on the anniversary of the accident which took his life, has been viewed half a million times in three days." Powerful stuff.
Berlin Archbishop Woelki, he of the small flock, will be promoted to cardinal this year so that's another German in the Vatican. He's famous for saying that homosexuality is an offence against the order of creation and his bishoppy motto is "Nos sumus testes" - could that mean "We are balls"? With that and the face cream he uses, he must be a closet queer.
How many black limos does it take to transport the pope round Berlin? Answer: 26 black limos and 23 police motorbikes, 14 other assorted vehicles: Police vans, cars, an ambulance and a partridge in a pear tree. No wonder the cost of the visit is 27 million Euros.
The Discodamaged team went to the demo in Potsdamer Platz on Thursday. The small party assembled at 24 hour gay bar Tramps and biked from there. When they came to the bridge at Schöneberger Ufer the way was blocked by very stern policemen. (Pic bottom left). When the Pope's motorcade came past it was met with boos. After that the demo itself was a bit of an anti-climax. It started late, there probably were about the expected 20,000 people there and the speeches were speeches.
Later that day they went on to sex club lab.oratory and got down on their knees, not for praying.
That Pope is arriving in Berlin today and staying at the rather fancy papal embassy (pic) tucked behind Little John's Bikes at Südstern, Kreuzberg. Very handy if he needs to score some weed in Hasenheide park. Then on Thursday we can give him a warm welcome at the anti-Pope demo in Potsdamer Platz at 16:00. Sign up on Facebook here. Make your hat for the demo here. More info here.
After a few setbacks that demonstration against the Pope and his German visit and his gay sex and other sexual politics is set to go from Brandenburger Tor at 4pm Thursday 22nd starting with a rally there.Click the headline for details including Facebook link.
In preparation for the Pope's visit to Berlin and the demo in September skydaddy has designed a Ralf Königs mitre which you can make at home. It's on LSVD here. They recommend using an A3 printer. But, as you can see, we found that A4 will do with the help of sellotape, scissors and beer.
Monday: Berlin authorities have banned the planned anti-pope demo at the Brandenburg Gate planned for Sept 22. They say that the pop's security is threatened and have created a ban mile around the Reichstag. Read more in German at http://derpapstkommt.de/
Der Papst Kommt: The Pope is coming to Berlin September this year and on September 22 there's going to be a demo against him. Let's turn out more protesters than supporters! In the mean time there's an online petition to sign, to let him know he's not wanted and that you strongly disagree with his gender and sexual politics. You can sign here right now (http://derpapstkommt.de/ Unterschrieben). Continue reading if you want to see the what you are signing for in English.
Gay Prides in Bratislava, Slovakia and Bucharest, Rumania passed off peacefully last weekend. There was a massive police presence to protect them against right extremists, who were violent last year and a Catholic Slovakian bishop even said that they would support everybody including queers. Progress!
So says Father Juan Perez-Soba, a moral theologian from the Vatican. His moral theologic theory goes: Using condoms is not 100% guaranteed to prevent an infection (sometimes they break and you're unlucky etc etc), therefore total abstinence, unless you are a priest when children are fair game, is the answer. Hey - but if you're Catholic you can always do confession: Go in a small darkroom with a priest, say "Forgive me father I have sinned, I fucked with a condom xxx times last week", say three Hail Mary's afterwards and that's all right. Replace xxx with any number 1-100. Get a grip Juan Perez-Soba! More rubbish on the Catholic News Service.
You may remember we reported that the Pope is visiting Berlin September 22-25 and will speak to the Bundestag. LSVD and others are organising protests and their efforts are gathering momentum. They have applied to organise an anti-pope demo on 22 September. It will go from Nollendorfplatz to Potsdamer Strasse and from there to the Brandenburg gate. They expect 50,000 people. Read more in Geman on queer.de or LSVD.
Apple have approved another anti-gay App. Back in November they approved a free app where you could sign a "declaration" against gay rights, gay marriage etc. They removed it a week later after a successful petition on change.org. This time it's an app from religious nutters Exodus International that claims to cure people of homosexuality through prayer and therapy. These kind of therapies have been repeatedly shown to not only not work, but to damage the people who undergo them. There's a new petition for it to be removed. Sign here.
LSVD, the German Lesbian Gay Federation, are helping to organise protests against of the Pope's visit to Germany in September this year. If you are interested in helping or starting your own protest, you're invited to the networking meeting at LSVD on Thursday 17 February at 19.00. Please register with joerg.steinert@lsvd.de first.
127 gay Arabs were arrested at a party in Bahrain last week. The party was in a quiet village and the neighbours complained about the noise. One policeman paid to go in, saw "depraved and decadent" acts (men dressed as women) and a full scale raid was mounted to arrest all the party goers. Being gay is illegal in Bahrain. Foreigners caught at it are deported after serving time in jail. Read more on Gulf News.
On others news, the moron Iman of the proposed "Ground Zero mosque" has resigned - his claims that gays had been abused as children didn't really endear people to his cause for a "modern mosque reaching out to New Yorkers and spreading awareness".
Pink News is reporting that "The new imam of the proposed Ground Zero mosque in New York says that homosexuality is mainly caused by emotional or sexual abuse. Abdallah Adhami, 44, said in a lecture that being gay was a "painful trial" which results from past trauma." Only in America right?
