Chantal started life in Berlin as a sex worker. For the last ten years she has been hostess and star of the incomparable House of Shame. Gloria von Trollop of discodamaged was privileged to interview her. It’s a reflection of the wild side of Berlin from the 1980’s to now, with a few useful tips for wannabee rent boys.
So darling, what was the attraction of Berlin? I grew up in a village 20km from Heidelberg. It was boring when I was 17. I had been hitch hiking on holiday and then a girl picked me up and took me to a squat in Berlin. I started to lived there. I soon returned to my village and picked up a few things to take back to Berlin, except my pet snake which went to the reptile house in Karlsruhe.
Tennessee, from a distinguished family of US sex- and left wing political-activists, has been drawn to Berlin like a fly to shit (just like many of us.) He started working very casually but over the years, and after a few false starts, he has established himself in arts, sex and entertainment. With his party partner Travis, he has now started an alternative night called PORK at Ficken-3000. Discodamaged interviewed him to discover how the migration went.
Tell me about your name Tennessee? Well my first name Tennessee is borrowed from a familial ancestor of the same last name as me from the nineteenth century who was a radical suffragette, civil rights activist and rumoured sex worker. Her sister Victoria Claflin Woodhull was the first woman to run for President of the United States.
