Festsaal Kreuzbeg - DD Review

Festsaal Kreuzbeg is one of the new gay / mixed clubs around Kotbusser Tor U-Bahn. It has recently become a lively scene for a grungey mixed crowd. There's some sort of village hall thing upstairs but the action happens down some slippery dark steps in the basement. It's a smallish low ceiling cellar with bar and furnishings mad by the DIY team from hell. But the atmosphere and music can be fantastic.

On the night I wandered in by accident the music was by Mark Boombastik (pictured) (www.myspace.com/markboombastik). Boombastik was three young men with a computer, a few other gadgets and their voices. They performed as they made music. One guy was singing and making noises, sampling himself and playing it back into the tune. All in German. His style, voice and technique blew my mind.

Worth a visit but dont go there for your creature comforts.

Festsaal Kreuzberg have an irregular monthly event called Open Zoo, which, they say, is more gay oriented.
