Drug law and enforcement in Berlin (accuracy and completeness not guaranteed!)
Except cigarettes and alcohol, all these substances are illegal in Germany, but in some special cases the police are tolerant. Take care: Drugs are often impure!
Heroin - they seem pretty relaxed about this, there are various notorious places where dealers put in a regular appearance.
Cocaine - Police are pretty keen on catching people with cocaine and penalties can be severe.
Ecstasy - Possible to obtain in some clubs and you will often be allowed in even if 'personal use' (<5 pills) are found on you. Classified similar to speed.
Ketamin - rarely seen in Berlin.
Hash / weed / cannabis - It is acceptable to roll joints and smoke them in most bars and clubs. Penalties: none for possession of small quantities. We're told its legal to have a bit, but illegal to buy it or sell it. Presents all round.
Viagra etc - not sold openly, bring your own.
GHB - not much info. Word has it that tou can buy 'GBL' legally and that 'GBL turns into GHB in your body'.
Poppers - sold in some bars. Popular and openly used on dance floors and in darkrooms.
Crystal Meth - No info
Speed / Amphetamine - Penalties are not severe and similar availability to ecstasy.
Cigarettes - banned in bars & discos, except separate rooms, from Jan 1st 2008. But its complicated. See article. Dec 08: Many bars and clubs tolerate smoking.
Alcohol: Can be drunk anywhere, including subway. Quite a few bars stay open 24 hours and allow smoking.
Drug Emergency Service: Phone +49 30 19 237 (24 hours) in medical emergencies.
