Bad Connection

Yesterday 17 Feb, Addiction was unexpectedly cancelled. Connection apologises and they warn that the Thursday night 'Pop Up Your Life' will be cancelled during March because of the builders. We look forward to April 26 when everything should be ready again. Save the date!

BLF | Gay Skin-Weekend

Just a reminder that sex dance is back at Connection, where lots of new stuff is coming. This Sunday at 20:00 and they recommend swimwear.

How to Run a Cloakroom: Top Tips

You would have thought that club owners would know how to run a cloakroom. It must have been done successfully a million times. So how do they fuck up so badly? Last night Connection, under new management, was a victim of its own success. The cloakroom there is very small and very dark. In the past few years Connection has not been very busy, so a no-cloakroom made sense. Last night it was rammed and very good fun, except that there was a half-hour wait to get things out of the cloakroom. We've been there before. So here are the Discodamaged top tips on how to run a cloakroom:

1. Have big clear numbers on the tickets
2. Have lights in the cloakroom
3. Have a cloakroom that is big enough
4. Have number very visible on stored cots / bags
5. Do not have to climb a ladder to retrieve items.
6. Store the coats / bags in order by number so that they can be found easily
7. Do not allow cloakroom staff to drink or take drugs
8. Have a back up cloakroom
9. If it's a sex / fetish club have bags for customers to put street clothes in
10. Have a system so bags can be numbered easily. (Very sticky tape is good)

It's not rocket science! One London promoter, after a similar fiasco, told us, "We're introducing a computer system". Duh! You don’t need a computer for a cloakroom. You need common sense.

Luckily the cloakroom staff that night were very friendly and totally doing their best in English and German and the punters were very patient. The facilities failed in all points except 7. Bork the new man at Connection told us that very soon they will have a new, larger cloakroom downstairs.

New Connection

12 years ago when I first came to Berlin, I got the night off from my German boyfriend and went to explore gay club Connection. The music was great and the dance floor was rammed with cute lads. I danced with one after another, then took them to the darkrooms downstairs and we had great sex. I still have vivid memories.

Sadly this desvription is no longer true. The club has become drab, sterile, virtually sex free, sometimes racist and boring. Condoms in this 'sex club' are not dispensed openly. You have to ask the barman. The last time I did so he grudgingly gave me one and indicated that I should spit for lubrication.

September listings are coming in and we notice that they have two DJs on two nights (normally it's strictly one), a cheap drinks offer + DJ on Wednesday 5.9 for Folsom and two sex dances. Further investigation reveals that Connection is under new management by the Propaganda / Gay Beach people and they are scratching their heads how to revitalise this club. So there are some changes in September, starting the 5th, but we expect much more in October. Watch this space!
And please guys: Have condoms and lube (gleitgel) in large open containers!

CONNECTION AND TOMS AT IT AGAIN

Malcolm at Toms bar and Dean at Connection have both experienced discrimination in the last week. There have been frequent complaints here of people being turned away from Toms due to their (old) age and discrimination against Asians at Connection. But then some say that Connection is a haven for Asians and that's been my experience. If you want to report it to the police here's how. Having said that Berghain discriminate on grounds of looks attitude and other random factors, Fickstutenmarkt will refuse admission to dogs (you may submit photo in advance if you like) and most Schöneberg bars discriminate against the ladies... ROAR?

RACIST CONNECTION?

We've had three recent comments that Connection are operating a racist door policy and barring men of Asian appearance. One Nyguen complained and received an email from the club which said, "Sadly, when too many Asians are in the club, many other guests don't want to come". So it's true then. Having been in Connection many times, I have seen Asians there but always in a huge minority.

Andreas Iserloth, regular DJ at Connection, later told Siegessäule, "We only want a good mixture, the club is for everybody drag queens, leather queens and Asians." He went on to say that recently the Connection boss had a scuffle with some Asians and got bitten in the arm by one but denied that the door policy was race related....

CONNECTION CLOSES FOR REFURB

Gay club Connection will be closed throughout May except for Saturday 1st when DJ S.Laurent will be on the decks. They have a poster up in PrinzKnecht simply saying "Connection CLOSED last dance 1st May". So you might think that it's permanent, but not according to the barman there. He said that they are closed for refurbishment for a month and a half. A spokesman for Connection says that they open again on Friday 11th June just in time for the Strassen Fest on 12th-13th June. The twighlight zone and bar will stay open. Connection is on the corner of Fugger and Welser Str, Berlin-Schöneberg.

THE TAPS DID NOT RUN DRY

discodamaged is very weak today because we went to Connection last night. Not only was it packed with sexy hot up-for-it boys but the beer didn't run out all night. It's the same again tonight – sadly we won't be able to pay a return visit due to said weakness. Otherwise we would.

CONNECTION = FREE BEER

Let's not forget that it's Connection's 21st birthday this weekend and they are giving away free beer on Friday and Saturday. I'll be there with Alexander to celebrate the launch of the discodamaged interview. Taps open 11pm.

CONNECTION REFURB

Advanced warning: Connection is doing a rebuild. The dance floor will be nearly doubling in size. They're working on the lighting systems and the decor right now. By the 21st march, when they will celebrate their 20th birthday, it should all be ready. As part of the renewal, starting in April only the last Friday in the month will be men only, girls welcome on all other nights. But Connection assures discodamaged that the darkrooms will remain men only. Watch this space for more news on the birthday party.

Connection - DD Review

Connection is the only gay dance club in Schöneberg Berlin. It has a small dance floor and huge darkrooms on three levels. They also have a free condom dispenser near the downstairs bar, which is unusual for a Berlin gay club. You can get lube from the barstaff (Tip: the call lube 'gel' here). It usually wanes at about 6am and is popular with tourists - it gets busy, but 50% of the people are only there to preen themselves or just watch the sex in the darkrooms.  Hot sex spots are at the back in a very dark bit downstairs, and upstairs at the clubicles.

Now that Propaganda opens once a month, they tell us that Connection is a bit quiet on those nights.
