Berio's: iconic Belin gay cafe on Massen Strasse. It's got the perfect location with a huge chunk of pavement that became smaller a couple of years ago when the print shop next door changed into Xara beauty Salon / cafe and reclaimed their bit. Berio's always served a good breakfast, even if it took a while to be delivered by the sexy waiters. And they were tolerant of wrecks coming directly at midday from Bull after an all nighter. The lackadaisical service only became a serious issue when you went in there parched for a beer. It could take ten minutes to reach the table. Of late it's got worse and the menu has been severely cut. Now we know why. They're being refurb'd.
Tomorrow, Monday 11th at 6pm, they are reopening with a new menu, new toilets, new paint and new service. Are they going to put the waiters on skates? Nearly all drinks are one Euro each. They'll have a DJ, Go Go boys, finger food and the first ten guests in will get free drinks all night. What a shame that I've given up alcohol for January. Sort of.
