We're starting a new section Gay Berlin to tell stories about life in Berlin. Strangely, the first one is about a weekend visit to Munich, the second city of Germany. It's smaller cleaner and much less raunchy than Berlin, but only 6 hours away on the ICE train. You can get return tickets for about 100€, if you can negotiate the Deutsche Bahn ticketing system and a sleeper reservation is 20€ extra. Jack and Albert took sleepers down, they were civilized and fun.
They were visiting Mateus, who works at Spexter, a gay porn shop, and Andreas, who has a night job at Oxen Garten, the Munich leather bar. This gives them great access to the other gay bars and clubs in town and they seem to know everyone. In the evening Andreas was working from midnight and the other 3 went to Selig, a bar where Mateus was having an exhibition. Munich is sort of stricter than Berlin for no smoking and in Selig they had to go outside for a cigarette. But over 700 bars have now become smoker clubs, Raucherclub, and for a small monthly fee (~3€) you can smoke in them just like the old days.
Oxen Garten, where they went next, was a Raucherclub. They didn’t even have to pay the 3€ because they were on Andreas’s guest list. It's a dark place with a mixture of ages and styles. Leather is not required. It has a glory hole in the middle of the bar (pictured) and a comically small cold darkroom. Jack popped in but it was empty. There was one very sexy boy called Peter who Jack got chatting to. His jeans were a bit undone and he was wearing a leather thong. It had to be pulled. He was leaving to go on to New York, Munich’s top gay club, our heroes were going there later too. Just before they did leave, Jochen, an acquaintance of Mateus’s came up and started pestering them. He roughly forced his hands down Jack's trousers. Jack tried to be as cooperative as possible, partly to draw the flak from Mateus, and gave Jochen a big snog just before they exited. As soon as they were outside the door Jack started to feel nauseous and five minutes later he threw up his dinner. Mateus thought it was the evil vibes he had ingested when snogging Jochen, Jack put it down to the pill he had swallowed half an hour earlier.
New York was nearby and full of nice young things. It also has a darkroom where they met lots of people. It was a very dark darkroom, but the people in the rest of the club looked OK and, by feel, they were the same in the dark bit. They also had fun chatting and dancing. Jack met Peter again. He was visiting for the night from Vienna. Jack invited him to the darkroom, but for some reason Peter declined :-( It was all very friendly and time passed quickly until the gang left at 7. Things have changed in Munich in the last few years. There used to be no darkrooms and all bars and clubs were shut by 2. It’s not as prim and proper as it used to be. Andreas had finished work and caught up with them by that time and they decided to walk the 5km back to the flat. It was a lovely sunny morning, they were all pretty high, they stopped at a couple of drink spots on the way and took lots of silly photos.
They were back home by 9. Andreas doesn’t really like wearing clothes and his came off straight away. Mateus and Jack soon followed his example and we settled down for powdered refreshments, more silly photos and comedy sex. They missed the best of that beautiful day and managed to get down to a beer garden by about 7pm, then dinner in a lovely cheap restaurant near the boy’s flat. Jack's stomach was still pretty dodgy, but there was trout on the menu and it was delicious and suited him. Trout is a Bavarian speciality. They have fast flowing rivers everywhere, which are very scenic and whiich the trout love. On Monday Jack and Alan took the 11.20 to Berlin. They should arrive at 16.53 and they have power sockets on the train.
Jack recommends Bavaria: lovely mountains and scenery in Upper Bavaria and the opportunity for a bit of filth in prim, beautiful Munich.

Hi,
I was there recently. It's beautiful city and the night life is better then expected.
